Although the 1992 Republican Convention in Houston touted the virtues of "Family Values", Judeo-Christian Civilization, the Bible, and Main Street, in a transparent strategy to equate Religion with the Reagan/Bush phenomenon, it is an open secret on the Russian River in Sonoma County, California, that when Reagan and Bush and other Republican movers and shakers meet, and let their hair down at the annual Summer encampment at Bohemian Grove, another tune is played. The 2800-acre Bohemian Grove, property of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco, is situated on the south shore of the Russian River, near Monte Rio, four miles west of Guerneville. "Bohemians," "Bohos" for short, roughly 2500 in number, bi-partisan in politics, although mostly Republican and representing a spread of ruling class and upper echelon bagmen, constitute perhaps the most exclusive men's club in the Western Hemisphere, a veritable Who's Who of corporate board members, bankers, entertainers, faded literati, World-Class politicians, and heads of Government. In stark contrast to the warmed-over Moral Majority pabulum that was mixed and served at the Republican Convention, vacationing Bohemians under the shadow of giant Redwoods, hunker down to a different species of mixed drinks. "Family Values" also are left behind, or perhaps temporarily forgotten, as procurers for both female, and male prostitutes, on "the river" do a booming business, and Bohos let it all hang out. But perhaps the most jarring contrast of all, is the contradiction between the pious hand-over-heart singing of the Star Spangled Banner (ritual for public consumption), that occurs at Party conventions, and the secret ritual that is the real "turn on" for the ruling class habitues of the Grove. For, when the rich and powerful "gather at the river," it is not to pray, and sign psalms and hymns. However, let it not be said that these men have no religion. Every July, the Summer encampment at Bohemian Grove is opened with a remarkable commencement ceremony. I quote from a January 1981 article by William Domhoff * in The Progressive :"...A ceremony called the Cremation of Care, which takes place at the base of a forty-foot [Ferro-cement] Owl... made more resplendent by the mottled forest mosses that cover much of it. "The ceremony... involves the burning of an effigy named Dull Care, who symbolizes the burdens and responsibilities these harried Bohemians now wish to shed temporarily. More than 100 Bohemians take part in the ceremony as priests, acolytes, torch-bearers, brazier bearers, boatmen, and woodland voices, but despite many flowery speeches, they can't get the fire started... the perplexed Bohemians must turn to the mighty Owl for advice: "O thou, great symbol of all mortal wisdom, Owl of Bohemia, we do beseech thee, grant us thy counsel," intones the high priest. "An aura of light creates a glow around the Owl's head, and then the big bird reveals its wisdom. The High Priest must light the pyre with the flame from the Lamp of Fellowship, located conveniently enough on the "Altar of Bohemia" at the base of the Shrine..."I will add, that the "priests, acolytes, and torch bearers" who participate in this ceremony are clad in Red and Orange hooded robes that bear a strong resemblance to the hooded regalia of the Ku Klux Klan. Jack Anderson, writing in the Sunday supplement, Parade Magazine, on February 22, 1981, disarmingly stated
"...the participants in this strange ceremony were not part of a secret conspiracy or far-out cult that had infiltrated the nation's power structure. They were simply enjoying a midsummer frolic at the world's most exclusive summer camp..."Should the Cremation of Care ceremony so quickly be dismissed, without prejudice, given the occultic nature of the ceremony, and its historical antecedents? The Cremation of Care ceremony bears too strong a resemblance to the ancient Canaanite worship of the idol, Molech, to be so readily dismissed. The "Owl of Bohemia," like the ancient Ammonite idol, Molech, is a towering, larger-than-life edifice. The bronze Molech was hollow inside, whereas the Owl is solid, and the altar stands before it. Molech worship consisted of the ritualized sacrifice of the first-born infant son of every Ammonite newlywed family. Building a fire in the belly of the beast, getting it good and stoked, so that the flames poured out of the mouth, the high priest mounted a scaffold and tossed the first born male child into an aperture in Molech's chest, to the incantation of drums and the droned liturgy of the priests of Molech. Technically, Owl worship, as it is practiced at the Grove is somewhat different from Molech worship. Peter Weiss, writing in Spy Magazine in November 1989, states,"Bohemian Club literature ... pious on this score ... boasts that the Cremation of Care ceremony derives from Druid rites, medieval Christian liturgy, the Book of Common Prayer, Shakespearean drama, and nineteenth century American lodge rites."Does the Bohos' sugar-coating of the ritual of the Cremation of Care, for what seems to be purposes of Public Relations, obscure a darker, psychological aspect of the rite? Are we faced with the continuity of a tradition of Sacrificial Rite, even on a symbolic level? This is significant in, and of itself. Moreover, persistent rumors and reports from various sources, tell of bizarre rituals, child snuff films, (films in which a child is murdered) and other horrors taking place within the confines of The Grove. In September of 1992, this author, and others spoke with former Nebraska State Senator John W. DeCamp, author of the book, The Franklin Cover-Up, at the Luther Burbank Center, in Santa Rosa. John DeCamp told us that the account of Paul Bonacci's testimony, (pages 103-104 of the above book) regarding a snuff film that was made on July 26, 1984, in California in "an area that had big trees", had been edited to omit the references to an enormous, Moss-covered Owl, and men in hooded, red robes. DeCamp told this author and others, that when he wrote the book he did not know about the Owl at the Grove, and he had reasoned that it just "seemed too far-fetched for people to believe." When in the fall of 1992, Paul Bonacci, still in prison in Nebraska, was shown a black and white photograph of the Moss-covered Owl taken at the Grove, he quickly identified it as the site of the July 1984, child snuff film atrocity described in DeCamp's book. Though this tangible and verifiable evidence has been available to law enforcement officials since mid-October of 1992, it is curious and appalling that no official effort to bring about justice has followed. One might assume, however, that the members of Bohemian Grove, unlike the ancient Canaanite Molech-worshippers, are not sacrificing their own children. Bohemian Club members, however hard they may strive in the business world, are members of the leisure class and as such assume the mantle of being the practitioners, rather than the objects, of sacrifice. No. Whatever sacrificing of humans is to be done, it must be the children of others: the poor, urban blacks, native Americans, Africans, third worldlings, et al, who are the objects, and victims. Bohemians, after all, are duty bound to preserve their own bloodlines, for if these should fail, who would be left to nobly take up the burden of dominion, and to inherit the reins of power? The casket that is christened "Dull Care" then, and that is borne, like the passing of Arthur in a boat, across the lake, seems subconsciously to be a symbol, to the Boho cultists, not only of the "cares of the world," but of caring itself. Symbolically immolated with the effigy in the casket are the hopes and dreams of the millions of souls around the globe whose lives have been affected by the wars of Yankee Imperialism in the twentieth century, including the hundreds of thousands of American war dead and the suffering engendered upon their wives, mothers, families, and loved ones. For the denizens of the Grove veritably possess, as a collective body, the power to make, and to orchestrate, War, the Modern Moloch. In their insatiable greed for more Money, and Power, Bohos must purge by fire the inherent human tendency within themselves to feel, and to care. In the ritual ceremony of the Cremation of Care, the Bohos are symbolically torching the consequences of their own business transactions; and they are immolating their own consciences, as well. The existence of a Pagan cult of Sacrifice amongst the power elite at Bohemian Grove gives the lie to all the propaganda promoted by the corporate Media pundits, as well as "leftist" journalists, and fostered by politicians of both parties, that the Republican Party, in embracing "family values," Bible morality and "Pro-Life," anti-abortion positions, in 1992, was "taken over" by its Moral Majority, "Right Wing". It should be apparent that the Pat Robertsons and Jerry Falwells are not powerful enough to have "taken over" the Republican Party. Rather, the power elite, who are amoral and always bi-partisan, have been using the religious right as "useful idiots," to borrow Lenin's phrase, and are engaged in the long-term Thesetic (Hegelian) process of manipulating the masses into the mental acceptance of what the think tanks have termed "The New Paradigm" - Which is nothing more than the social liturgy of the high priests of the New World Order. These men are perfectly willing to sacrifice half the population of the world on the altar of Genocide, in order to maintain the economic hegemony of their precious multinational cartels. The world that the plutocrats are attempting to bring to birth is, necessarily, far more Babylonian and Pagan than "Christian." The twenty-year alliance between the "Christian Right," and the Republican Party, so useful in its day, in accomplishing the economic agenda of the power elite during the Reagan-Bush years, may eventually come to an end. Already, in some quarters, this association is being turned on its head, and appears as another kind of asset by the manipulators of the Dialectic. The religious Right by their silence and approval of the Iran-Contra and the Gulf War, were complicit in the sins and the genocidal policies of Reagan-Bush. Just as Jews were scapegoated in Hitler's Germany, Christians, increasingly, may become the fall guys and the sacrificial lambs for the ruling-class in the near future, as the dialecticians maneuver the armies of the night into the battle-formations of the Final Conflict. The ruling class has already adroitly convinced both the Left and the "Christian Right," that each other is the main enemy. It only remains to orchestrate a crescendo of conflict between both camps, (the Abortion issue is a useful tool here), to knock both out, and eliminate substantial sectors of resistance to the New World Order in the process. For similar purposes of social control, (and taking the heat off the ruling class), a Race - or Holy War scenario - might also be deemed effective. The denizens of The Grove are well aware of the critical path of the decade of the nineties. After conducing various elements of the Masses to fall upon each other, they expect to be able to continue their sacrifices in peace, in their corporate-feudal Shangri-La, in the new world they are earnestly bringing to birth, a new age,in which ritual sacrificing of live humans shall be considered Normal, and healthy. Is it to be such a world, then, as Jacques Soustelle describes in his work on The Aztecs, where "Sacrifice was a sacred duty towards the Sun, and a necessity for the welfare of men..." ?

Letter to the Editor : The Bohos Strike Back
July 12, 1993 Mr. Terry Schembari, Editor-Publisher Santa Rosa Sun 1275 Fourth Street P. 0. Box608 Santa Rosa, CA 95404 Dear Mr. Schembari:
The feature article "Inside Bohemian Grove" (Sun, July 8-21 issue) should have been headlined "Inside a Writer's Addled Head." The malevolent concoctions about "sacrificial rites," etc., at the Bohemian Grove can only be characterized as freakish fantasy. The "Cremation of Care" is a musical and verse pageant heralding a two-week midsummer escape from business cares and celebrating nature and good fellowship. As grand-scale stage drama, it may be a bit overdrawn; but it's about as innocent as anything could be. The owl has always been the Bohemian Club's symbolic "mascot," representing the redwood forest's preserve of wisdom, beauty, and peace. The 4O-foot owl sculpture, created by a famous sculptor-member of the club in the early 1920s, is no more or less than an admirable work of art, monumentally portraying the owl symbol to enhance an outdoor stage. The enclosed information will take you and your readers find more realistically "inside the Bohemian Grove" and Bohemian Club than do Mr. Evans' weird, wild imaginings. Yours truly, 464' Richard Arnold, Member, Public Information enclosed. 824 TAYLOR STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA 94102-1075. (415) 885~2440
In Response To Mr. Arnold:
Your reaction, as spokesman for the Bohemian Club, to the serious allegations of wrong doing, public and private, leveled in my article, was predictable, and I am glad you responded; it lets us know that someone is paying attention. It is typical of the Modus Operandi of powerful people and institutions in dealing with unpleasant charges, to dismiss them by discrediting the bearer of the bad news, or the journalist, in this case. Your words, "addled," "freakish," "weird," do not offend me, nor the staff of this publication. As a journalist, I stand by the words that I have written, give or take the several typos that were generated in the process of the getting the article in print. I am not responsible however, for the captions that were written beneath the photographs of the "Owl of Bohemia;" They were written by the editor. A sizable body of journalism has been published over the years about the Grove. William Domhoff's excellent book, The Bohemian Grove, and Other Retreats, A Study in Ruling Class Cohesiveness, Harper and Row, 1974, is far more specific about the ritual of the Cremation of Care, interlocking corporate board connections, and naming names of Bohemian Club members, than my brief article. To my knowledge, however, your letter represents the first time The Bohemian Club has publicly responded to critical attention in the media. We can only conclude that somehow it struck a nerve. What is unique about my article is the connection I make between the "Cremation of Care" ceremony, and the continuity of sacrificial rites, real or symbolic, going back to Moloch-worship in the land of Canaan. There is a lot of very interesting, and academic material on this subject (for those of you who still read) that can be gleaned by cross-referencing The White Goddess, by Robert Graves, and The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop. If anything, I am guilty of knowing too much, and of having a mind that is capable of making connections. Also, I don't tow the party line that Jack Anderson espoused in his piece in Parade Magazine, February 22, 1981, (Journalists tend to cover their asses), that you guys are "merely enjoying a midsummer frolic at the world's most exclusive Summer camp." My article questions the "darker, psychological aspects" of your "rite." Also, I establish the equation that War is the modern equivalent of Moloch, and I remind the reader of the facts, so thoroughly documented in Professor Domhoff's book, The Bohemian Grove, of the enormous pull, and influence in the Military-Industrial complex represented by Bohemian Club members. I do not assume, as a lot of liberals are busy doing, that because Clinton is President you guys will not continue to make, and orchestrate wars all over the planet. I am well aware that by writing what I have written, I have made myself a target. Already, the editor of this newspaper has received threats on the telephone. Several days before the article was published, my brakes failed while coming down a steep bill, here in Sonoma County. I am simply stating this for the record. The allegations about sexual philandering and the snuff film are serious, but they are pale by comparison to what you (Club Members, collectively) have done abroad as Imperialists, to the Third World. The fact is, however, that most Americans are blind, or oblivious to the excesses of American Imperialism, but they love, and jealously protect their own children. The majority of Americans can be manipulated through media hype, into buying a short, sweet war ('a Ia, the Gulf War), but would be appalled if they knew, and realized that the same, small class of oppressors who profited to the tune of BILLIONS from the Gulf War, were kidnapping, raping, and sacrificing their own children. As things have developed, however, some of your "Club Members" have become somewhat careless, and it was only a matter of time, or osmosis, until the word of some of the kinkier aspects of ruling class behavior leaked out. At some point, some of you crossed over the line, and the cavalier attitude that you maintain about raping, looting, and plundering the non European sector of the planet was bound to exhibit itself in extracurricular behavior here at home. As Jesus Christ said, long ago "There is nothing done in secret, that shall not be made known, and come abroad." The American people are just beginning to awaken to the reality that all is not really wonderful here in the land of plenty, and that we are saddled with a very real plutocracy of roughly five thousand white men, who consider the rest of us (non-managers, that is), as peasants, fools, and mere fodder - for the bread of oppression. It is only because a certain fateful chain of events unfolded in front of me, and the dark secret of the snuff film that was mentioned on pages 103 & 104 of John DeCamp's book The Franklin Cover-Up, came to the attention of myself, and several friends, that I felt compelled to write the article you now flippantly dismiss. We cannot vouch that Mr. De Camp, former Nebraska State Senator, and protégé of William Colby (Nixon's interim C.I.A Chief), will admit to the conversation(s) in question. De Camp has since learned about the clout of the Bohemians. My friends and I, however, are quite willing to testify in court, and to take lie detector tests, should the people call for a Grand Jury to investigate this matter. I suggest that if you are really serious about defending the honor of the Grove from the charges that I have written in my article (and I have just touched the tip of the iceberg), that you take me to court, and sue me for libel. That would be very interesting, because then, Sir, I would get discovery, and we could proceed to open up the can of worms over Paul Bonacci's testimony about the snuff film that was made on July 26, 1984. Mark Walter Evans Columnist, Sun Newspapers, published in late July, of 1993 Editor's Note: We called Mr. Arnold and asked if we could attend the "celebration" this year, and were to1d "absolutely not." Though the propaganda sent to us by Mr. Arnold stated that members may bring guests, he refused to allow us to have a look for ourselves. NO REPLY !
